AD8232 Single-Lead ECG Heart Rate Monitor Sensor

Low-Noise Biopotential Signal Conditioning for Cardiac Monitoring

Track electrical activity of the heart with the AD8232 ECG Heart Rate Sensor Module. Engineed for biopotential signal conditioning, this single-lead heart monitor extracts, amplifies, and filters tiny, noisy ECG signals directly from cardiac impulses while rejecting muscle noise and motion artifacts.

Unlike simple optical pulse sensors, the AD8232 measures true electrical voltage changes generated by heart muscle contractions—producing a classic electrocardiogram waveform. With integrated fast-restore circuitry, low-pass/high-pass filtering, and lead-off detection pins, it connects effortlessly to microcontrollers for real-time cardiac analysis, fitness trackers, and biomedical prototyping.

  • Integrated Signal Conditioning: Combines an op-amp, high-pass filter, and low-pass filter to extract clean ECG waveforms from noisy environments.

  • Lead-Off Detection (LO+ / LO-): Built-in hardware detection alerts your microcontroller immediately if an electrode pad disconnects from the skin.

  • Fast-Restore Feature: Rapidly recovers signal stability after abrupt movement or electrode repositioning.

  • 3.5mm Jack & Header Pins: Includes a standard 3.5mm connector for biomedical electrode cables alongside standard pin headers for easy breadboarding.

Specifications:

  • Operating Voltage: 2.0V – 3.5V DC (3.3V recommended)

  • Output Type: Analog Voltage

  • Gain: Integrated high-gain amplification ($\sim 100\text{x}$)

  • Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR): $80\text{ dB}$

  • Operating Temperature: $-40^\circ\text{C to } +85^\circ\text{C}$

  • Interface: Analog Signal Out (OUTPUT), Leads-Off Detect (LO+, LO-), Shutdown (SDN)
