RUS004 Ultrasonic Module

An Integrated Proximity Sensor with Programmable RGB Visual Feedback

The RUS004 Ultrasonic Module is a high-performance distance-sensing component that combines traditional ultrasonic ranging with integrated visual feedback. Operating on the principle of sonar, it emits high-frequency sound waves and measures the time they take to bounce off an object and return to the sensor, allowing for precise distance measurements typically ranging from 2cm to 400cm. What sets the RUS004 apart from standard sensors like the HC-SR04 is its built-in RGB LEDs, which can be programmed to change color based on the proximity of an obstacle. This makes it an ideal choice for robotics and IoT projects where a visual "warning" system—such as shifting from green to red as an object gets closer—is required without needing additional wiring for external lights.

From a technical integration standpoint, the module is designed for ease of use with popular microcontrollers like Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi. It generally operates on a 3.3V to 5V power supply and utilizes a standard 4-pin interface (VCC, Trig, Echo, and GND) for distance data, while the RGB lighting is often controlled via a dedicated signal pin or integrated serial protocol. The compact form factor and the "owl-eye" design of the dual transducers make it easy to mount on mobile robot chassis. Because it uses sound rather than light, it is effective in various lighting conditions and can detect transparent or dark objects that might pose a challenge for infrared-based sensors.
