Waveshare Luckfox Pico Pro & Max Linux Boards

High-Performance RV1106 Vision AI Development Boards with Onboard NPU and Camera Interface

The Waveshare Luckfox Pico Pro and Luckfox Pico Max are compact micro Linux development boards designed for advanced edge AI, computer vision, and IP camera applications. Powered by the Rockchip RV1106 System-on-Chip (SoC), these boards pack an ARM Cortex-A7 processor, a 0.5 TOPS Neural Processing Unit (NPU), and an upgraded Image Signal Processor (ISP) into a tiny form factor. They allow developers to run real-time computer vision models—like object detection, face recognition, and motion tracking—locally on the device without relying on cloud processing or heavy single-board computers.

Both models run a lightweight embedded Linux OS (via Buildroot or Ubuntu) alongside an auxiliary RISC-V core for fast booting and ultra-low-power standby. Designed specifically for visual pipelines, the Pro and Max feature a 2-lane MIPI CSI camera interface capable of handling up to 5MP resolution with HDR and 3D noise reduction. Onboard RJ45 10/100M Ethernet, USB-C, and castellated GPIO header pads make them equally suited for breadboard prototyping or surface-mounting directly into custom product enclosures.

Luckfox Pico Pro vs. Luckfox Pico Max: What is the Difference?

Both boards share the exact same physical dimensions, pinouts, processor, and peripheral interfaces. The key distinction lies in memory and storage capacity, giving you two options based on the complexity of your software workload:

  • Luckfox Pico Pro (128MB RAM / 128MB Flash): Equipped with 128MB DDR3L memory and 128MB SPI NAND Flash. It is ideal for lightweight vision models, dedicated IP video streaming, and single-purpose edge sensors.

  • Luckfox Pico Max (256MB RAM / 256MB Flash): Doubles the capacity with 256MB DDR3L memory and 256MB SPI FLASH. Choose the Max if you plan to run larger neural networks (such as YOLOv5/v8 variants), execute complex image post-processing scripts, or host multi-threaded applications alongside the core operating system.
